Elementary Teacher

My love and passion for teaching children began in 1970, when I started as a first-grade teacher in my hometown, Bogalusa, Louisiana. Creating a productive classroom environment where I could observe my students blossom into happy learners kept that love and passion alive for over forty years. My husband’s career took our family across the south where I held teaching positions in Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and Texas.

Being a public-school teacher in rural, inner-city, middle class, and affluent communities gave me a wealth of knowledge of how children best learn. My order of service was 23 years in 1st grade, 8 years in 2nd grade, and 9 years in 3rd grade. I did free tutoring and private tutoring throughout my tenure. I also taught for summer camps in reading, writing, and science.

Retirement in 2011 brought us to Big Canoe. I love being Yaya to my five grandchildren, gardening on my decks, and doing Women’s Bible Studies. Back to class in 2014, substituting in Pickens County Schools, and being lead teacher planning curriculum and making the schedule for children’s Sunday School.
